Why Treat Deep Vein Thrombosis?
DVT is a blood clot that forms in a vein in the body, mostly in the thigh or lower leg. It is important for this condition to be treated so it does not worsen. These blood clots can break loose and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs resulting in a pulmonary embolus.
What Treatments are Available?
The best way to manage DVT is to prevent your clot from enlarging. In the past, coumadin was the “gold standard.” However, newer non-coumadin oral agents, which do not require weekly blood testing are now being used.
